TWO SPACES IN AMAZING CO-OP HOUSE!

One space (room) is opening up in Fairview House, a small shared living  cooperative and member of the Northern California Land Trust, in South Berkeley. Our target move-in date is December 1st We have some flexibility regarding when the room will be available, so if  people have specific timing needs we can try to accommodate them.

If you’re interested we will be having an open house:
Dates:             Thursday, October 2nd, 7-9pm
                        Saturday, October 4th, 11am -1pm
Place:              1801 Fairview Street, Berkeley, CA

We are looking for one additional long-term  housemate to purchase a share in the house.  Current residents are artists and active community members, who work in an array of interesting professions.  Fairview House occupies two houses: a large Victorian and a  duplex. We are a 4 minute walk from Ashby BART.

About the house: We are organized as a limited equity coop in a single room  occupancy configuration with shared living space and a shared  kitchen.  The houses include storage space; laundry; bike storage; beautiful gardens; a guest room for use by visiting  family and friends; and a number of common spaces including a dance and  rehearsal studio, art studio and social spaces. There are two pianos in the house and lots of other musical instruments.

We share food and shopping, week night dinners, regular chores and  a house meeting, which we all make a commitment to attend every  second and fourth Monday.  The pantry is loaded with dried fruits,  nuts, grains, beans, snacks, and we get CSA boxes weekly. Our shared food cost is $230/month. We buy mostly organic, and a lot of stuff is bought in bulk to reduce cost.

Carrying Charge and Affordability restrictions: The monthly carrying charge is currently $382/room and is scheduled to increase to $432. As a member of the land trust we are committed to keeping housing affordable. Accordingly your adjusted gross income can be no more than 65% of AMI (area median income) or $38,155 at the time you purchase a share.  For more details and buy-in amounts see our website which has a complete application packet.
